Arun Lakhani is a technocrat & multi-talented businessman. Capt BVJK Sharma joined JSW Group in 2003 as Joint Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer and under his able leadership, JSW’s Infrastructure business grew from conception to an enterprise value of USD 1.25 billion (translate to INR crores) within a span of 8 years. The ports operating under JSW infrastructure have cargo handling capacity of 33 million metric tonnes (MMT) per annum and it is working actively towards achieving port capacity of 200 MMT and create a valuation of USD 4 billion by 2020.

With over three decades of extensive experience in the purview of maritime sector, Capt. Sharma has played a critical role in the advancement of the interest of the maritime sector and creating efficient & sustainable infrastructure in the country. He has travelled extensively to many parts of the world during his 16 years’ tenure as Master Mariner & further 16 years’ tenure as infrastructure developer, which enabled him to explore various business opportunities and subsequently implement them successfully. Capt. Sharma played a significant role in the Mundra Port one of the best-managed private commercial ports in India. His proven business acumen was also visible through value addition at Essar Port, Hazira in his earlier stints.

Capt. Sharma serves on a number of high-level industry representative and civic society bodies including FICCI (as Co-Chairman, Infrastructure Committee), ASSOCHAM (Co-Chairman, Shipping & Logistics Committee), CII (National Committee on Logistics), Maritime Advisory Group, Bombay Chamber of Commerce (Co-Chairman Shipping, Transport & Logistics Committee),Indian Merchants Chamber, etc.

Capt. Sharma has been recognized for his contributions to the industry. He is on the Board of Directors of SRF Ltd., KEC International Ltd., Apollo Hospitals Enterprise Ltd. and Lafarge India Pvt. Ltd. He is a member of the Advisory Boards of HDFC India Realty Fund, JCB India and L&T Power IC.

He is a well-read columnist and writes a monthly column on infrastructure for Business Standard called ‘INFRATALK’. He also has a weekly column in the Financial Express titled INFRATWEETS. He has authored a book titled “Getting it Right – India’s Unfolding Infrastructure Agenda” published in 2011.
